Your Customers Ask AI Who to Hire. Does It Name You?
The first call no longer goes to the top of a search page. It goes to whoever the AI answer names, with links to where it found them — and when we measured our own business, the answer named us zero times in 28 scored tries. If your business isn't one of the names, you never hear the phone ring, and no report you own today even shows you the loss.
We measured ourselves first. On October 20, 2026 we ran a fixed battery of buyer questions — the kind customers actually ask — across the major AI engines and scored every answer three ways: named, cited, recommended. Our score: recommended in 0 of 28 scored answers. Cited in 0. We published the whole scorecard, and then we started fixing it in public. This article is the method, free.
Those are our numbers, measured on our own battery, published because a scorecard you can't see is just a claim. The audit method and our scorecard live here.
How do I run the test on my own business?
It costs nothing but a little honesty:
- Open ChatGPT, Gemini, or Meta AI and ask: "What's the best [your trade] in [your town]?" and "Who should I call for [your main service]?"
- Write down exactly who gets named — and follow the links under the answer to see which pages the engine trusted.
- Do it again next month with the same questions. A fixed battery is what turns a vibe into a measurement.
If a competitor down the street is named and you are not, the rest of this article is the reason — and the repair order.
Why can't the AI name you?
1. It can't find your facts. An engine can only repeat what it can read. If your services, town, prices, and phone number aren't stated in plain text on pages a crawler can reach, you don't exist to it — no matter how good your work is.
2. Your facts disagree with each other. Different name spellings, old phone numbers, three different service lists across your site and directories — to a person that's clutter; to an engine that's doubt, and doubt gets skipped.
3. Nothing else vouches for you. Answers lean on sources: directories, local lists, reviews, mentions by other people. A business with a website and nothing else is a voice talking about itself.
What actually fixes it — in order?
- Say the facts plainly, once, everywhere. One page per service that answers the customer's question in the first two sentences: what it is, who it's for, where, what it costs.
- Structure the pages for quoting. Headings shaped like questions, short factual passages, and structured data (schema) that tells machines exactly which business, service, and phone number a page is about. We added a full fact sheet and machine-readable records to our own site — you can read ours.
- Earn mentions where engines look. The directories and lists for your trade and town — the same pages your competitors' citations point to.
- Re-measure monthly, same battery. Visibility work without re-measurement is astrology. The score either moves or the work changes.
Our own fixes went live the same day we measured. The honest footnote: on re-check, the answers hadn't moved yet — engines revisit pages on their own schedule, and anyone who promises you a date is inventing it. The work is the lever; the calendar is theirs.
What do we sell, exactly?
The Audit: we run the fixed battery for your trade and town, score it, show you who gets named in your place and why, and hand you the roadmap. You keep the report either way — hire us for the fixes or hand it to anyone. Proposed at $249. Presence: we do the fixes and re-measure every month on the same battery. Proposed at $199/month. Both prices are proposed, confirmed with you at intake before anything is billed — and there are no guaranteed rankings, from us or anyone honest.

How can I check whether AI recommends my business?
Ask the engines your customers' questions — "best [trade] in [town]" — and write down who is named and cited. Repeat monthly on the same questions. That's the whole test; we just do it rigorously and in writing.
Can you guarantee AI will recommend me?
No, and nobody honest can. We guarantee the measurement, the fixes, and a published scorecard — the recommendation is earned, not sold.
What does it cost?
Audit proposed at $249 one-time; Presence proposed at $199/month. "Proposed" means exactly that — confirmed with you before anything is billed. You keep the audit either way.
